MBN announces leadership transition and strategic transformation

April 17, 2024

The Middle East Broadcasting Network (MBN) is pleased to announce significant developments in its leadership structure and strategic direction, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and innovation in global media.

Leadership Appointment

James O’Shea, the MBN board chairman, announced that Jeffrey Gedmin has been appointed as Acting President of MBN, effective immediately. O’Shea said the appointment is part of a strategic initiative while the network continues its thorough process of selecting a new President/Chief Executive Officer. Gedmin brings a wealth of experience in media and policy, having held significant roles such as President/CEO of RFE/RL and the Legatum Institute, and co-founder and editor-in-chief of American Purpose. His expertise and visionary leadership are expected to drive significant progress as MBN embarks on a transformative journey. Gedmin will remain a member of the RFE/RL board and the International Broadcasting Advisory Board.

Board-Approved Transformation and Rebranding Plan

Alongside this leadership update, MBN’s board of directors has approved a comprehensive Transformation and Rebranding Plan aimed at enhancing the network’s operational capabilities, expanding its global reach, and redefining its identity in the competitive media landscape. This plan will be set into motion immediately under Gedmin’s leadership, reflecting MBN’s proactive approach to shaping the future of international broadcasting.

Acknowledgment of Hassan Shwiki

MBN extends its deepest gratitude to Hassan Shwiki for his leadership as Acting President. Shwiki’s contributions have been pivotal in maintaining the network’s stability and continuity during a crucial period of transition. Hassan will assume new duties as the director of a new entity at MBN – the MBN Academy.

MBN’s Commitment to Innovation

As MBN enters this new chapter, the network reaffirms its commitment to providing innovative, impactful journalism and media content that resonates with audiences worldwide. The transformation plan is designed to not only enhance MBN’s market position but also to ensure the network remains at the forefront of the evolving media landscape.
