CEO Bennett: Cambodia order to block RFA “abhorrent”

July 17, 2023

WASHINGTON – USAGM CEO Amanda Bennett issued the following statement in response to the July 12 order by Cambodian government regulators to block the websites and social media pages of independent media outlets, including Radio Free Asia’s Khmer Service.

“The July 12 order by the Cambodian government to block access to Radio Free Asia’s online content is a blatant and abhorrent attack on press freedom. Cambodians deserve access to independent, uncensored information every day, and especially leading up to the July 23 elections.

This tactic by the Hun Sen government is not new, but we will not stand for it or any attempts to hinder independent media. We remain committed to providing the people of Cambodia with the news and information they need to make informed decisions about their lives.”
