May 17, 2023

From May 10 to 16, Chief Executive Officer Amanda Bennett traveled to Kenya and the United Arab Emirates to strengthen USAGM’s partnerships in these regions, and to promote its mission of providing accurate, objective, and comprehensive news and information to people around the world.

During her visit to Kenya, Bennett participated in the USAGM’s Chief Executive Officer Media Conference, “Surviving and Thriving in the Post Pandemic Era,” with over 40 media leaders from across the continent to discuss the role of independent media in promoting democracy and human rights, and to explore continuing opportunities for collaboration on media projects.

In the UAE, Bennett participated in a series of meetings with USAGM’s Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) team, which produces high-quality, independent news and information for Arabic-speaking audiences. She met with regional media leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing media in the Middle East.

“A vibrant media is essential for democracy to thrive. USAGM is committed to supporting fact-based journalism around the world,” said Bennett. “I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with our partners to discuss strengthening independent media to continue to provide people around the world the information to make informed decisions about their lives and their communities.”

USAGM is a U.S. government agency that oversees six entities: the Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), Radio Free Asia (RFA), the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN), the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) and the Open Technology Fund (OTF).
